Chow mein is a type of Chinese dish that originated in the Guangdong Province of China. It is typically made with wheat noodles that are stir-fried with vegetables and meat. The dish is usually seasoned with soy sauce, sesame oil, and other spices to create a rich and flavorful sauce.

The Chinese take-out version is slightly different and usually uses less complex ingredients though they use egg noodles so you’ll need to look out for the ingredients on the package.

To make vegan chow mein, the traditional meat is replaced with plant-based alternatives, such as tofu or seitan. This substitution not only makes the dish vegan-friendly, but it also adds a protein boost to the meal.

The vegetables used in chow mein can vary depending on personal preference, but commonly include onions, carrots, bell peppers and mushrooms. These vegetables provide a variety of nutrients and flavors to the dish. Other vegetables such as broccoli, bok choy, and snow peas can also be added to increase the nutritional value of the dish.

As always the key to making Chinese Take-out style food at home and getting it to taste like in the restaurant is always the same… MSG! it’s optional but it transforms the dish and makes you crave it more with every bite. sadly, MSG is riddled with misconceptions so I suggest you research it for yourself and make up your own mind.
